This is a collection of my personal favorites - photos I've shot over the past few years for themes & challenges to vacations to hiking and camping in the mountains. Mostly opportunities just to get out into nature and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us all.

Kirk > Sean and I climbed to the summit of Timpanogos and then decided rather than returning via the normal trail we would slide down the glacier. It was a little scary but cut the 12 hour hike by about 30 minutes.
Kirk > Long story short - I saw that my son Sean and the goat were going to meet at the corner of the stone building. Sean had no idea what was about to happen. I had just enough time to capture the expression on his face when they actually saw each other. The moment was priceless.
Kirk > We hiked all night long in total darkness to be on top of Mt. Timpanogos by sunrise. We decided to wait at the saddle (bottom left) for sunrise before taking the 45 minute hike to the summit. I was glad I did. The light was fantastic.
Kirk > We are coming down from the Mt. Timpanogos summit at 11,750 feet. As you can see, the back side, or east side of the mountain is a shear cliff dropping more than 1,000 feet. You don't want to get too close to the edge.
Kirk > While waiting for the Manti Pagent to start the sun set and the clouds drifted in as the lights came on around the temple. It made for a very dramatic shot of the temple.
Kirk > I was fishing with my dad and brother but hadn't been able to catch anything until this Small Mouth Bass hit my line. He was 5.25 lbs. It was hard to release him. He would have made a great meal but anything over 22 inches has to be released.
Kirk > 1/22 - Friday night and Saturday morning I was in the mountains about 15 minutes from our home camping with a bunch of Boy Scouts. We slept in the snow in 0 degree temperatures. I took this shot in the morning just after the sun came up and the mountain fog started to clear.
Kirk > 12/30 - At nearly 11,000 feet the oxygen is thinner so we had to stop and rest often to catch our breath.
Kirk > 12/30 - I tried to ski behind Sonja and Jessica and take pictures at the same time. It worked pretty well. In this photo you can also get a better feel for the ski runs as they cut through the pines.
Long story short - I saw that my son Sean and the goat were going to meet at the corner of the stone building. Sean had no idea what was about to happen. I had just enough time to capture the expression on his face when they actually saw each other. The moment was priceless.
