Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission Reunion 4-08 : The Reunion was wonderful. It was so fun to see so many from the mission field. Personally there were several I hadn't seen since I came home January of 1980.

If you want a photo click the thumbnail on the left so the picture appears larger at the right. Move the mouse over the larger image on the right and a menu will pop up. Pick "Save Photo" at the bottom of the list and it's yours. The group shots have been posted both low res and high res. For a print larger than 4"X6" save the high resolution images (the two group shots only).

New $20 bills - Proof that money does grow on trees.

Sean and I went to Goblin Valley State Park to camp. There was a full moon. It took about 22 seconds to get the stars and rock formations exposed properly. A small flash light created the glow inside the tent.

This might be my all time favorite image. It has special meaning to me. My parents have several walnut trees around their home and they produce thousands of walnuts every year. My dad collects them, husks them and sets them out to dry. Then he bags them and gives them away. I was at their home and was walking by when I saw his work gloves sitting on top of the walnuts. For me it told the story and represents how my dad has always worked hard around his yard. Someday he will be gone, but this photo will always remind me of who he was.

1/24/07 – This is an image I shot last summer at Orem’s Summer Fest parade. The image never appealed to me. But yesterday I learned a new photo technique called the Orton Effect. The original effect was done with slides long before digital imaging and named after Michael Orton who first used the technique. He would shoot two images, both under exposed. One was in focus and the other out of focus and then he would sandwich the two images into one mount. The result was a dreamy, luminescent image that can make a dull image pop. For me, it did just that for this shot. I never saw anything in this image until I applied the Orton Effect. – Cool!

I took the entire family golfing and we got hit by a thunderstorm that drove us off the course. I captured this image as the storm passed by and the sun was setting.

I was in an antique shop at the base of the Bingham Copper Mine, the largest open pit mine in the U.S. and saw this gear detail. I have no idea what it is but found the detail and contrast interesting and took the shot.

We hiked all night long in total darkness to be on top of Mt. Timpanogos by sunrise. We decided to wait at the saddle (bottom left) for sunrise before taking the 45 minute hike to the summit. I was glad I did. The light was fantastic.

I captured this image on a snowshoe trip. I was headed back to my vehicle and the drifts of snow against the pine trees caught my eye. It is best to view this one a little larger to see the detailed texture of the snow. Just click on it.

I generally prefer to shoot landscape without people in them, but the ATV rider anchored the image, created perspective and added to the story that the image had to share.

The American Fork River. The first snows of winter make everything in the mountains look black and white. The splash of color from the fall leaves made for an intriguing contrast.

I was driving up the south fork of the Provo Canyon and saw this little "Holiday Shack". I sold this image to a company that distributes holiday decorations. They used it in their catalog. I've also sold it as a framed fine art print.

$This calm and peaceful reflection isn't what you might think. This is a puddle in a parking lot. The image was shot by putting the camera on a monopod, setting the timer and then placing the camera upside down just a fraction of an inch above the water. The puddle is not more than an inch or two deep but created the perception of a lake or pond from this perspective.$

Fall up American Fork Canyon. This was shot with a wide angle lens and is best viewd larger.

This is my first choice for "Dominant Color".

That's me. This is the summit of Mt. Timpanogos looking to the north/north west towards Salt Lake city. If you look carefully you can see the trail coming across the face of the mountain behind me. Round trip is 16 miles. Fortunately going down doesn't take even half as long as going up.

This is my youngest, Sean. He was 11 years old when I took him to the dunes for the first time. For an 11 year old he was really aggressive and had no problem handling the 500 pound machine.

This is west of my home down by the Geneva Steel plant where Lisa's dad once worked. The plant is now closed.

Sean's 9th Grade Viking Football : Sean had a great football season. He is number 99 and played defensive end mostly, but occasionally played tight end on offense. Cross Country RV Trip : Sean attended the National Scout Jamboree with his cousin Zak from Minnesota. We drove out to pick him up and visit Heidi's family. We didn't have a ton of time but we made the most of it stopping at many places along the way. The trailer made it nice because we were able stop and go any place, any time. We even spent a night in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Sioux Falls, SD. Not a good idea if it is hot.

Project 365 : One photo a day for 365 days - one year! I've wanted to try this for a long time so here we go. Surely I will struggle to find subjects to shoot but it will be interesting to see how it works out. I don't expect my best work, but I do expect to sharpen my eye to see more around me, and hopefully the process to compose the mundane will improve my photography overall.
